FAQ

FAQ’s

What Should I Provide or Do I Need Anything?

You will need to provide a sufficient area of at least 6x9 for the table to set up and to have adequate amount of space to move around. You should have the space warm enough for your own comfort. I will bring all necessary massage equipment and supplies. That will be all that you will need to provide.

What Do I Wear During A Massage?

Traditionally massage is directed on bare skin and most people do undress completely for their full-body massages. However, this doesn’t mean you have to give up your modesty or comfort level. While many clients have no reservations about removing all of their clothing, some do prefer to leave on their undergarments. This is up to you and your own comfort levels. You will have privacy when you undress, plus you will be covered with the sheets and blanket at all times, except for the area of the body being massaged.

I Do Not Have A Perfect Body and I Don't Want You To See....

Nobody has a perfect body and we all have the areas of our bodies that we are not comfortable with, including me. When I massage your body I am not looking at what you feel are your imperfections. I look at your muscles, where you’re knots are, how your body is reacting to the massage, your breathing, etc. Plus I have worked with all kinds of body shapes, body sizes, body imperfections, surgery scars, as well as people with physical body disfigurements or ailments. My job and my goal are to make you feel comfortable, relaxed and forget about anything and everything. Besides, it’s not the person on the outside that makes up who you are on the inside.

What Do I Do During a Massage Therapy Treatment?

First off make yourself comfortable. A big question I get asked is where do I put my arms? Again, make yourself comfortable. If I want you to adjust your position I will either ask you to move or I will move the section of the body as necessary. Otherwise, move your body to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Some people feel better talking, others prefer to be silent. Often times people will start out talking then drift away as the massage continue on. Whatever helps you to relax the most is best.

Does Massage Hurt?

During the time of your massage I will probably find areas of tenderness or pain. The level of pain depends upon you and the pressure you want. Receiving massage strokes in tender areas often creates a very satisfying sensation of “hurts so good.” If, however, a client has to hold their breath, or tense their body to endure the pain then this becomes counterproductive. Severe pain triggers the release of stress hormones into the bloodstream creating more stress which is hardly the goal of massage therapy. If you find the pressure or pain to be too much, you need to ask me to decrease the pressure or try a different technique. Please don’t take the pressure or pain thinking it is supposed to be that way. Though there are some massage techniques that involve deep pressure that can be very painful, yet they have long-term benefits that may outweigh the short-term discomfort. And for some they feel the saying “No pain, no gain” is beneficial for them. So it is up to you and your specific body needs on what type of pressure that you want. You may be sore after a massage too. If you are not used to receiving massage it is similar to not being used to working out. Just as you can feel sore after a good workout, you might feel a little sore after a massage, but that feeling should not last more than a day or two.

How to Get the Massage You Want!

Communication is the key! Often times people become embarrassed, shy or afraid to say what they want during a massage if there is something they don’t like about it. Sometimes the pressure may be too hard or even too light or you may want a bit more focus on another area and you just don’t want to offend me. It is your body and your massage and you should speak up to say what it is you want. Most of the time the body gives clues to when the pressure is too hard, such as a person holding your breath, or certain muscles suddenly tense up. However, if the signs aren’t there you need to say something! While I may be great at what I do, you are the expert on your comfort and pain levels and it is your massage. The best way to get the massage you want is to tell me what you want!

I've Never Had a Massage Before, How Long of a Session Should I Book?

Many times I’ve been asked about half-hour massages. I do not offer a half-hour massage as this is barely enough time to cover a specific body area. A half hour is definitely not enough time to feel the full benefits of a full-body massage. I find that most people start with an hour massage. That's enough time to cover the entire body and to make you feel relaxed. Some people find that an hour and a half is the best way for them as this gives them time to settle down, relax and gives me more time to work on any extra problem areas. With both the hour and hour and half massages you will receive the full time! Many places you will pay for a 60-minute massage and receive a 45-50 minute massage. With HHMM you will receive the full time limit, if not over the time limit, to get your body the best that it deserves.

How Often Should I Get a Massage?

That really depends on what your goals are and your budget. If you are receiving massage to help heal an injury or to get rid of chronic pain, you usually need to receive weekly massage until you reach that level of optimum physical health. If you are receiving massage for prevention, health maintenance, or just to feel better, you have more leeway in how often you receive massage. A few of my clients come in once a week, most of them come in every other week, some every 3 weeks and some once a month. All of them recognize the importance of self-care, and the health benefits that they enjoy from receiving massage on a regular basis. I recommend getting a massage at the bare minimum of at least once a month. The effects of regular massage are cumulative. A massage every week or two can make a big difference in your overall health and tension levels. Even a monthly massage is beneficial. Make regular massage part of your health maintenance program (along with good nutrition and exercise) and you'll feel better.

Do Your Hands Ever Get Tired?

This is the most asked question I get. The answer is rarely. During the course of a massage I use anything and everything from my fingers, forearms, fists, and elbows, so it is not just my hands being used. Plus using the proper body postures during massage also helps deter fatigue in my hands. In addition I love what I do and being able to help my clients feel the way they feel during and after a massage helps keep me energized!
